HLTAID009 - Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

Course Description

Cardiac arrest can happen anywhere, at any time. This CPR course gives you the confidence and practical skills to act fast, perform effective CPR, and use an AED to give someone the best possible chance of survival.

What you’ll learn

  • How to recognise cardiac arrest and respond quickly

  • How to perform high-quality CPR on an unconscious, non-breathing person

  • How to safely use an automated external defibrillator (AED)

  • How to work as a team and rotate rescuers with minimal interruptions

  • How to manage regurgitation or vomiting during CPR

  • How to provide a clear handover to emergency services

  • How to reflect on an incident and look after yourself and others afterwards

Participant Requirements

Participants undertaking CPR training are required to perform uninterrupted CPR on an adult mannequin on the floor for a minimum of 2 minutes, in line with current assessment guidelines

Pre-course and online delivery

  • Some courses require online pre-course learning to be completed before the face-to-face session

  • Participants must have access to a computer, smartphone, tablet, or similar device with internet access to complete online components

Duration

  • Face to face duration: 120 minutes

  • Online + practical duration: 90 minutes

Certification

  • Statement of attainment issued upon successful completion (usually within 24 hours)

  • Certificate validity: 12 months
